This work highlights the history of choosing a site for the deep radioactive waste disposal in the context of the chronology of previous surveys. The process of selecting a subsurface site for the deep radioactive waste disposal in Russia, which began in the 80s of the last century, is presented in comparison with the experience of foreign countries. The monograph systematically describes the sequence of selecting the Yeniseisky site and provides a detailed overview of geological information on various scales from regional to local at the selected site. It is shown that the choice of the Yeniseisky site is determined not only by a wide range of properties of the geological environment, which determines its acceptability for the placement of the PZRO, but also by social and economic factors. In conclusion, the remaining uncertainties are outlined and ways to eliminate them in the course of further research in the context of assessing the long-term safety of radioactive waste disposal in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
