News » Institute News INSTITUTE NEWS16.12.2015Review of foreign practices of RW and SNF disposalThe Review of Foreign Practices of RW and SNF Disposal (in Russian) is prepared by expert team of the Nuclear Safety Institute (N.S. Tsebakovskaya, S.S. Utkin, I.V. Capyrin) and FSUE NOR AO.
The publication is an extensive generalization of international experience. The paper gives an overview of international experience of final disposal of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel which is considered the waste of nuclear technology in a number of countries. The experience of 15 countries with different strategies of SNF management, but equally high level of disposal safety is discussed. The following aspects of the problem of RW disposal for each country are analyzed: the responsible authorities, including the regulatory authorities; national operator responsible for RW disposal; RW classification and inventory of accumulated RW; national policy; existing and planned disposal facilities of all types of radioactive waste (LLW, ILW, HLW and SNF); research on deep disposal of HLW and SNF; public communication and others. Brief description of safety justification for disposal projects in Sweden, France and the United States is presented separately. The publication is intended for the public and professionals interested in the issues of safe disposal of radioactive waste. The work will be placed on the official website of FTP NRS. | ||||||||
