The IBRAE 25th Anniversary Conference was held on November 6, 2013

The IBRAE 25th Anniversary Conference was held on November 6, 2013 at the Presidential Hall of the new building of the Presidium of the RussianAcademy of Sciences.

The conference was attended by outstanding Russian scientists and experts in nuclear, radiation and environmental safety, academicians, representatives of the relevant ministries and agencies, the leading research and industrial organizations of the nuclear industry.

The President of the RussianAcademy of Sciences, Academician Vladimir E. Fortov, opened the Conference. In his opening speech, he stressed the high scientific and social significance of the work performed by IBRAE for 25 years and compared the Institute with a person in the prime of his life and abilities. He congratulated IBRAE staff on this outstanding event and expressed confidence that further development of the Institute will be equally successful.

The first part of the conference included the presentation of Leonid Bolshov, Director of IBRAE RAN and Corresponding Member of the RussianAcademy of Sciences: "Safety of nuclear power after Chernobyl and Fukushima". Then it was time for the official congratulations to IBRAE from colleagues, partners and friends of the Institute. In particular, among the speakers were: Academician B.F. Myasoedov, RAS Chief Scientific Secretary, V.A. Pershukov, Deputy Director General of the State Corporation "Rosatom", V.S. Izubtsev, Deputy head of the Rostechnadzor, V.T. Potsyapun, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Atomic Energy of the State Duma, L.N. Ponomareva, a member of the Council of the Federation, V.A. Grachev, honorary member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Ya.I. Shtrombakh, Deputy Director of the RC " Kurchatov Institute", V.P. Soloviev, First Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Nuclear Center VNIIEF, V.M. Batenin, Deputy Director of JIHT RAS, Corresponding Member of RAS, Academician V.K. Ivanov, Chairman of the Russian Scientific Commission on Radiological Protection, G.S. Batorshin, Technical Director of FSUE "PA" Mayak ", M.L. Glinsky, First Deputy Director General of FSUE " Hydrospetsgeology ".

After a short coffee break, the Conference continued its work. The heads of the main scientific IBRAE divisions made the presentations devoted to analysis of the most significant results of the Institute’s activities. The experts gathered in the hall listened with interest to the following presentations: Valery Strizhov "Development and Application of NPP Safety Codes", Igor Linge "Scientific basis for nuclear and radiation safety", Raphael Arutyunyan "Development of scientific basis and creation of systems of response to radiation emergencies", Sergei Antipov "Fundamental research of ecological safety problems during the decommissioning of nuclear and radiation hazardous fleet facilities", VasilyGoloviznin "Fundamental research as applied to the relevant scientific problems in the field of analysis of nuclear and radiation safety".

Upon completion of the presentations, stand-up party was organized in the lobby of the Presidential hall, and the participants congratulated the management and staff of IBRAE RAN once again in an informal setting.
